Celebrate National Apprenticeship Week With a 100% Govt-Funded Thornfields Apprenticeship

National Apprenticeship Week takes place from Monday 10th – Sunday 16th of February 2025. The week reflects on how apprenticeships help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and help businesses develop a talented workforce that is equipped with skills for the future.

Employers and staff from across England are gearing up for National Apprenticeship Week 2025 following the launch of a new website and communications toolkit.

What is an Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships combine learning at a college or training provider with on-site experience through an employer which provides the apprentice with the right mix of technical and practical skills. The apprenticeship must last for a minimum of 12 months, and usually their time is split as 20% at a training provider (for example a college) and the remaining 80% spent with the employer. At the end, the apprentice will gain an official certification. An added benefit for the employer is that it is a fraction of the cost compared to recruiting a typical member of staff.

Benefits of an Apprenticeship

Apprenticeships are a key tool for upskilling in areas that matter most to the employer. They are an effective route to recruit and retain future talent and address skills shortages.

Employers can upskill where resources are needed the most and learners apply their newly-learnt skills straight away, which is a win-win situation for everyone involved. As the world of work continues to evolve, employers are competing to secure the best new talent to fill key skills gaps, and apprenticeships are an excellent way to attract talent and fill gaps within the workforce.

The qualification earned at the end of the apprenticeship attracts forward-thinking, driven applicants who tend to be enthusiastic about the role and training that they have chosen. This is an asset to any employer as the employee is committed to succeed in completing the apprenticeship programme.
