Why We Use FPM Core: Billy's Lifeline Charity Case Study

When North-East charity Billy's Lifeline set up to carry out crucial work helping relatives of those who have taken their own lives, they chose FPM Core to guarantee their compliance in this highly-regulated sector. Here's why.

Hi Natalie, thanks for talking to us about your charity and why you chose to use FPM Core for your compliance needs. Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about what you and your charity do?

I'm Natalie Rafferty, Chief Operating Officer at Billy's Lifeline. We are a charity dedicated to supporting families and loved ones who have lost someone to suicide.

Based in the Northeast of England, our primary focus is on establishing a secure and compassionate environment, where individuals impacted by suicide can access immediate practical and emotional support.

Our goal is to alleviate the stigma associated with suicide loss and actively promote mental well-being within our community.

We have been using FPM Core for almost one year, shortly after we were first operational.

Q. What made you choose FPM Core?

As a charity that provides services to vulnerable people, it is very important that we have up to date, relevant policies and procedures that staff can follow to ensure we are meeting the needs of our clients in a safe way. Apart from this, we also need to protect our support workers and volunteers. There may be times that a person may require a home visit and we must ensure that we follow safe working practices when carrying out lone working, for example.

"As well as this, for us to operate compliantly, as a charity we must provide evidence of certain policies when applying for grants and funding".

Before choosing FPM Core, we thought we would simply use a good old-fashioned folder full of paper policies with a tick box to say people had read the policy. However, we quickly realised that with our staff and volunteers working remotely, a more accessible option would be more suitable for us.

Q. What was the main objective you wanted to achieve by using FPM Core?

To ensure compliance, and that our workers could be kept up to date with any policy changes in a timely manner.

Q. How was the onboarding process, and how did FPM support you through set-up?

From our initial contact through to set up, the representatives have been friendly and helpful. It is a very straight forward process to have activated, followed by an easy-to-follow step by step guide to get started. There is access to online help, with a fantastic and comprehensive library of tutorials too.

Q. What are the key benefits Core brings for you? Any features you particularly like?

"The key benefits for us as a charity is knowing that all of our workers are able to access our policies and procedures on the go, when they need to".

The fact that we can evidence compliance is also very important to us. In a short period of time, we have doubled the number of workers due to the success of the charity and we needed to ensure that they were onboarded as quickly as possible and working to our standards.

Q. Did you know that we now have links to our webinars and webinar guides on Core, plus a new quiz feature for some policies? What other features would you like to see that you might find useful on Core?

We have noticed some additional features recently which we find very useful and easy to access. In particular, the recordings of the webinars and supplementary guides are especially useful and being able to access them at a time that suits our workers is great. We really feel this offers extra value to FPM Core for us, which is a bonus.
