“Register With a GP” Service: What You Need To Do

You may have heard of the NHS’s “Register for a GP surgery” service. But did you know there is some action you need to take in the next month relating to it?

This NHS service is compulsory, and lets new patients register at your practice online. It does all the necessary checks to facilitate this:

•    checks they live within your catchment area
•    matches them to their NHS number
•    sends the registration details to the GP, by email, in a standard format

It’s designed to make it easier for you to keep track of who is registered at your practice. In future the service will be integrated directly into GP’s clinical systems.

What You Must Do:

  1. By the end of October 2024 you should update your website with the user-specific URL you were sent when you enrolled on the scheme (sign up can be accessed here).
  2. You should also remove any references/links to the old GMS1 online and offline forms.
The 2024/25 GP contract mandates these changes. The NHS Primary Care team will also be writing to all practices, explaining how the new process will be managed moving forwards.

If You're An MSW Customer

If you have signed up but haven’t yet starting using your new URL, you can let us know by emailing support@mysurgerywebsite.co.uk and we will update your website for you. This means we will remove any reference to the old GMS1 forms, and add your unique link that you were sent on registration.
